News and gossip from Lord of the Rings and other related issues.

The extended DVD is now out to buy, I'd love to hear from someone who has watched this extended version as I have not been so lucky. (I'm skint at the mo!!!)
Has anyone bought both versions?
DO you think that this is a rip-off?
Should the extended version simply have been included in the extras of the original DVD???
I'd love to hear from you lot out there about this topic.
DVD release!!!
The day we've all been waiting for has been and gone!!!
August 6th came with a flurry of posters, television adds and free lotr mugs/posters/figures all for the release of the fotr DVD and video release, with the DVD containing an extra disk of inteviews, previews and behind the scenes action, it's definately worth the extra £5 (Don't know that in $ sorry!) more than the video.
The disk also shows a preview of the TTT video game, out later this year. Hopefully it will prove a better success than the very poor Harry Potter game.
With occasional repeatition of clips and quotes, the extra footage is still very much worth it. As will be the much anticipated 4 disk DVD set out on November 12th.
This set boasts not only more of the extra footage shown in the disks out now, but also an extended version of the film itself, including at least 35 minutes of previusly out-cut footage put back into the film where it should be. Definately a must for fans of the book who were dissappointed at the loss of the present giving scene and "concerning hobbits". Unfortunately, I have heard nothing of the Tom Bombadil scene, which I would have loved to have seen in there.
Anyway, I haven't seen that set yet but I will as promised, give my opinion on the disks out now.
Dispite the fact that the magic of "The Fellowship of the Ring" can never be completely portrayed on a small screen, I will stll give the DVD 9-and-a-half/10 (as opposed to the cinema versions 11/10!!!!!)
And the extras I will give a 9/10.
The video should keep us going till the TTT release anyway!!!!!

For those of you who've read the books or at least have finished the two towers, (if you haven't and don't want 2 find out the end of two towers I'd skip this paragraph!)
Where do you think the Shelob thing and the, "Don't go where I can't follow!" bit should come in?
There are arguments for each way, if it's put at the end of the two towers and it ends with them thinking the worst, then that would be awful, but if they leave it till the 3rd film then they'll be leaving out the most powerfull part of the film, return of the king has enough powerful bits of it's own.
Maybe we shouldn't mess with Tolkien's original idea, they leave the two towers with hope, and yet they know the worst can yet happen.
I heard that it's all been delayed to The Two Towers but I haven't heard nething definate, from the official site or nething.
E-mail me with what you think!

Extended wait for extended version of DVD!!!
The impatiently awaited 4 disk extended version of FOTR is not out until November the 12th!!! Fans all over the world are expected to wait nearly as long for this as for the release of The Two Towers!!! Is this just a scam to get people to buy the film twice??? True fans of LOTR want the vid as soon as possible, ie September 17th when the "normal" DVD is released. But the temptation of extra material is just too much to resist!!! Will we have two lots of DVD's on our shelves by christmas??? Tell me what you think by leaving a message in my guestbook or e-mailing me, (the address is on my Mail bag page).

Magazines wake up to fact of cute LOTR actors!!!
The last month or so, I've noticed Orlando & Elijah appearing in lots of magazines! Has the general public finally woken up to the fact of how gorgeous they really are!!! Dominic Monaghan doesn't seem to be getting the same attention tho, do U guys think the way Merry was shown in the film has affected the way Dom is seen by fans??? I personally think he's v-cute! Anyone agree with me??????????????????

OSCARs!!!!!

:( The OSCARs were a bit dissapointing, the BAFTAs were a lot better!
Guess England just has better taste in films.
Sorry, that was cruel, I kmow loads of U true LOTR fans R American and you guys rock!

Orlando Bloom was on "So Graham Norton" and he looked gorgeous!!!
He was with Cilla Black of "Blind date" and Cybil-maneater-Shepard... she's 52 and went out with Elvis yet this didn't stop her from flirting non stop with Orlando!!! (He looked terrified!)
He was wearing a black leather jacket over a pale shirt with jeans and his usual necklace thing.
Great interview!
He also revealed that he's shooting a movie with Heath Ledger (from "A knight's tale") called Ned Kelly in which he plays Ned's mate, an Irish guy who's "a bit of a lady's man!
One funny part was when Graham called Legolas "Leggy Lou Lou!"

Peter Jackson, Ian McKellen, Orlando Bloom, Dominic Monaghan, Billy Boyd and various writers & producers were at the BAFTA awards on Sunday!!!
FOTR won Orange award film of the year, best film, best directer, best hair & make-up & more!!!

The Empire Awards

Shock Horror! Orlando left out!

When excepting his Empire award for best actor, Elijah Wood thanked the fellowship for their support, well most of them...

"I think the first people that I really need to thank though are the Fellowship because they really made Frodo who he was. I wouldn't have been able to get through that journey in New Zealand without them, so to Sean Bean, Viggo Mortensen, Ian McKellen, Dom Monaghan, Billy Boyd, Sean Astin and John Rhys-Davies, you really got me through that time and made Frodo complete."

Notice anything???
Somebody missing???
Disgraceful!!!

April's Empire covers the awards fully!

Elijah's Acceptance Speech for best actor:
Hello everyone in London. Thank you so much for this. Thank you to the readers of Empire magazine for voting for me - it's truly an honour. And thank you to Empire magazine because you've really been quite a support for our film. I think the first people that I really need to thank though are the Fellowship because they really made Frodo who he was. I wouldn't have been able to get through that journey in New Zealand without them, so to Sean Bean, Viggo Mortensen, Ian McKellen, Dom Monaghan, Billy Boyd, Sean Astin and John Rhys-Davies, you really got me through that time and made Frodo complete. Also thanks to Peter, Fran and Philippa for writing a brilliant script and bringing Tolkien to the screen in the best possible way. Thank you guys - take care!

Orlando won best debut, here is his speech: "This is surreal. Oh my word, thank you so much It's crazy because I got an opportunity out of drama school to go and work on The Lord of the Rings that doesn't come round very often and I've been forever grateful to the hundreds and thousands of people who felt that they wanted to make The Lord of the Rings - Peter Jackson, Frances Walsh his writing partner, for seeing some pointy-eared quality in me, my agent Fiona and my family and friends who I just love and the readers of Empire - because I think I love you too now."

Christopher Lee's Acceptance Speech:
'Thank you all very much, thank you Empire - sounds like something Queen Victoria would say. I am very proud to receive this - strangely it's the second thing to do with the Empire I've received in the last six months. I always thought if I got an award it would be as Most Promising Veteran. But I'm intensely proud of having the opportunity of having worked, I hate to say it, for 56 years with some amazing people. I said the other night that any award should be dedicated to the people I've worked with, and I really mean that, because without them this wouldn't have happened. Particularly, what you've already seen [of Lord of the Rings] without any doubt whatsoever is one of the greatest films ever made (and it's only the first). There are people here this evening with whom I've had the privilege of working with in The Lord of the Rings, Ian McKellen was always tremendously encouraging - always there - an absolute tower of strength. I play the character who's used to be a fairly decent person at one time, and strangely they thought of me. John Box spoke earlier about spirits and strange things happening in the night - sounded strangely familiar. I've had a lot of strange things happen to me in my career! I've been in some pretty terrific movies - of course there are the others as well, but we won't go into that. I just can only say to Empire and to the people who've spoken through this magazine, that I'm very grateful and thank you all so much.'

Acceptance Speech - The Lord of the Rings:
Accepted by Ian McKellen, Orlando Bloom and Billy Boyd
Well you all know who Orlando is, I'm Ian McKellen and this is Billy Boyd. Oh and I fancy Ewan McGregor as well! I'd like to congratulate the Empire readers for recognising what is undoubtedly the greatest film of the year. It was, we can all tell you, the greatest experience of our professional lives, going to New Zealand and working with Peter Jackson and the amazing team of New Zealanders who made what seemed at times to be a home movie turn out to be this blockbusting success. Because its heart was always in the right place. It believed in Tolkien. It believed in the most popular story in the 20th century and it turned it into what's going to be the most popular continuing story of the 21st century on film.

Peter Jackson:
Thank you very very much. This is really fantastic. You know Empire magazine has been so supportive of us from the very beginning. I remember our very first cover story for The Lord of the Rings was on Empire - it was a very special day. So thank you very much to Empire magazine and a special thank you to all the readers who voted for The Lord of the Rings. You know, it's great to have good reviews and good box office but the best rewards come when people say they really liked our movie. And I guess that's what the readers of Empire have said. The award can sit right up here (on his desk) to inspire us during the cutting of The Two Towers.

The Next 2 Films.

The Two Towers and The Return of the King promise great special effects and amazing story lines.
Those of you who have read the book will know that the battle of "Helm's Deep" and creatures such as Shelob will be an enormous task for the film makers to produce, and yet, they have done it!
